Beginning Scala is available on APress Alpha

Hello David,

the typical question arises: "Do we need another Scala book?".

Yes, indeed we do, to have the chance to learn all the important stuff about that fine but not so easy Scala language (at least for the typical Java developer) with different approaches.
Not every writer writes the same, not every reader is the same type.

What I would like to know:
How does Beginning Scala differ from Programming in Scala?
At least some topics are overlapping (well, not surprising).

What I currently miss as an ordinary Java developer in enterprise context is a guidance about how to solve some typical things in Scala the Scala way, so not falling back to program Java in another syntax, where not approriate.

Example: Everyone talks about immutability, but how would one write a typical domain model layer for a -let's say- car rental company with such things in mind?
How would an expert implement these classes and their relations?

How is file handling, data processing (regex always a matter, xml too) a.s.o. done differently -and hopefully better- in Scala?

Such are the questions Java programmers have after getting through this syntax and feature stuff in Programming in Scala.

So for me "begin" would be more in the sense of "begin to actually doing". I would be glad if the new book would not only cover PiS stuff in another style and stop where PiS already stopped. The Apress announce promise things in this direction.

PS: I'm not so fond of Apress announcing Scala as "dynamic" and "scripting" ... shure they don't want you to make a Groovy book?
